Branch Session of The 3rd World Water Forum
Theme: Lessons to Learn from the History of Water Control

The world is now faced with the problems such as conflicts concerning water supply, shortage of water and food, water pollution and flood crisis. The aim of the World Water Forum is to support the deepening of discussions towards the solution of international water issues in the 21st century, to formulate concrete proposals and to bring their importance to the world's attention. The Forum gathers not only water specialists but also citizens, politicians and organization representatives.
The 3rd World Water Forum will be held in Japan, connecting Kyoto, Osaka and Shiga. And we, Osaka Prefectural Government, International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, International Water History Association and United Nations University, will hold a session which theme is "Water History: Lessons to Learn from it". Through this session, we expect to pull out some hints towards the solution of international water issues in the 21st century, from the wisdoms or failures of the past. 11 specialist of water history will attend the session, and present us with the reports of various regions of various periods.
